United States President, Barrack Obama, on Thursday, April 20, 2015, apologized for the accidental deaths of two hostages during a US counter terrorism strike targeting an al Qaeda compound in the mountainous Afghanistan/Pakistan border.
”As president and as commander-in-chief, I take full responsibility for all our counter-terrorism operations, including the one that inadvertently took the lives of Warren and Giovanni,” Obama said.
Multiple US officials allegedly told CNN that a US military drone that targeted the compound has killed two al-Qaeda hostages.
Warren Weinstein, an American USAID contractor who has been held by al Qaeda since 2011, was killed in the strike, as was Italian Giovanni Lo Porto, also held since 2012.
