LAGOS, Nigeria — Following the untimely demise of popular Afrobeats artist, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, the Lagos State Police has released a significant update on their investigation.
At a press conference held on Friday, October 6, 2023, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, highlighted that after receiving three injections from a nurse named Feyisayo Ogedemgbe, Mohbad experienced severe distress and began vomiting. The revelation sheds new light on the circumstances leading up to the singer’s death.
CP Owohunwa, during the press conference at the State Command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, shared that Mohbad was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital on September 12, 2023.
“The auxiliary nurse who was contacted by Ayobami Sadiq aka Spending, a friend of Mohbad on the 11th of September, 2023 to treat the singer at the deceased residence in Lekki,” the police commissioner revealed.
“She eventually came on Tuesday, 12th September 2023 and administered three different injections which are believed to have occasioned the chains of reactions that directly resulted in the eventual death of the singer.”
According to the police commissioner, the nurse administered tetanus toxoid, paracetamol, intravenous and cetrazone injections at his residence and the injections triggered vomitting, goose bumps, and convulsion ending the singer’s life.
The commissioner declared Ms. Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse, the prime suspect in the case. Notably, other individuals, including Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy, and one undisclosed individual, have also been listed as suspects.
The tragic event has seen a total of 26 witnesses being interviewed by the police, including Mohbad’s immediate family, his wife, and his manager.
CP Owohunwa stated, “Five suspects have so far been identified, arrested, detained, and interrogated on their alleged roles in the sequence of events that led to the death of the singer.”
Mohbad’s fight with his childhood friend Primeboy on Sunday, September 10th, which the police described as violent, occasioned his needing treatment the next day.
Mohbad’s passing has triggered widespread speculation and debate, especially after old videos of him alleging bullying and physical assault resurfaced.
The singer was only 27 years old at the time of his demise.
As the investigation unfolds, fans and well-wishers await more clarity on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a promising young star.
