Nigerian soldiers and members of the Boko Haram sect are currently engaged in a gun battle in Gadaka, a town in Yobe state, according to a report by The Cable.
A source, closely monitoring the situation, says that Boko Haram fighters, in an apparent bid to sieze the town, launched an onslaught on the town over the night, Wednesday.
Nigerian troops put up resistance Thursday, August 6, 2015, leading to intense fighting.
“As I speak to you now, there are three fighter jets bombarding the militants,” he said.
“They came to the town in large numbers last night and the military responded this morning. They wanted to take over the town, because they were even telling people to leave and threatening to kill those who would not obey. “
More Boko Haram fighters attempted to gain access Gadaka, Thursday, but the heavy rains in the night curtailed their advancement as the roads were flooded, according to the source.
