Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has officially joined the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Obaseki made the announcement on Friday, June 19, 2020 days after announcing his resignation from the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Governor Obaseki had a prolonged face-off with his predecessor and ousted chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomole which led to his disqualification from participating in the state primaries.
His disqualification from the APC governorship primary elections was the beginning of the end of his time with the ruling party and it was made official after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
After his disqualification, Obaseki met with PDP governor, Nyesom Wike of Rivers state talks had been ongoin with party leaders concerning his defection.
Former vice president and presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar had openly declared his support for Obaseki as the PDP governorship flagbearer.
He is expected to pursue his re-election ambition in his new party.
