A female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Shahu was this morning beaten and burnt to death over alleged religious blasphemy.
The school authorities have subsequently shut down the institution indefinitely over the sad incident.
According to Peoples Gazette in their rendition of the account, the irate attackers in the Sokoto College of Education, who went berserk, roasted the Christian female student, only identified by her first name, Deborah.
The online newspaper said she was accused of passing unflattering comments about Prophet Mohammed on campus.
Following immediate threats to her safety, she was immediately evacuated to the security post of the school, according to a student who witnessed the development and passed its preliminary details to Peoples Gazette. But the mob pursued her to the security post and overpowered the personnel there.
There has not been any detailed report about the student’s information, but a video has already circulated online showing how the student was set alight.
The newspaper said it contacted the Sokoto police spokesman Sanusi Abubakar who declined comments about the incident when reached.
Authorities have issued a statement announcing immediate closure of the school over the fracas that broke out following Ms Deborah’s murder.
