A female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Shahu was this morning beaten and burnt to death over alleged religious blasphemy.
The school authorities have subsequently shut down the institution indefinitely over the sad incident.
According to Peoples Gazette in their rendition of the account, the irate attackers in the Sokoto College of Education, who went berserk, roasted the Christian female student, only identified by her first name, Deborah.
The scholar who is said to be residing with her parents at Old Airport Road area of Sokoto metropolis, was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad during a hot argument with her colleagues in school.
A source said, ”She was having an argument with some of her schoolmates over their ongoing examination and when she was asked how she managed to pass her exams, she said it was Jesus. She was asked to withdraw the statement and apologise which she refused.”
Following immediate threats to her safety, she was immediately evacuated to the security post of the school but the mob pursued her to the security post and overpowered the personnel there.
There has not been any detailed report about the student’s information, but a video has already circulated online showing how the student was set alight.
Authorities have issued a statement announcing immediate closure of the school over the fracas that broke out following Ms Deborah’s murder.
