PLATEAU, Nigeria – In a harrowing incident, Plateau State University, PLASU, was attacked by armed bandits who attempted to abduct students from the female hostel on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
The school’s local security forces successfully repelled the invaders, ensuring that no abductions took place.
John Agams, the Public Relations Officer of PLASU, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, explaining that the criminals targeted the female hostel in Bokkos between Tuesday, May 9, 2023, and Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
“It is true that gunmen attempted to kidnap some of our students, but the attempt was repelled by our local security men,” Agams stated.
During the confrontation, one student sustained injuries, but all students remained safe from abduction.
Agams praised the heroic efforts of the security operatives, who managed to protect the students and maintain their safety.
PLASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benard Matur, is currently on the school premises, appealing to students to remain calm and peaceful during this trying time.
The university will continue to work on bolstering its security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of its students and staff.
