We Are Not Bothered By Impeachment – APC

Must read

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Adamawa state chapter on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 condemned the impeachment of the state governor, Murtala Nyako calling it a crude show of power by the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC made this known in a press release by the state publicity secratary of the party, Phineas Padio, who described the impeachment as a move of the PDP led government to steal power from the party.

“The so called impeachment   of the governor and the resignation of deputy governor respectively, clearly signal a rape of democracy that must not be allowed to stand. To us and all other good citizens, Tuesday’s action clearly climaxed PDP’s planned invasion of our dear state and betrays their political brigandage just as it exposes their desperation to rule the state against popular wish,” the statement said.

Nyako was impeached on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 after the state House of Assembly deliberated upon the report submitted by a seven-man investigative panel probing allegations of financial misconducts against him and his deputy.

Eighteen out of the 24 members of the Assembly voted for his impeachment.

Right after Nyako’s impeachment, Bala Ngilari, resigned as the deputy governor of the state.

Ngilari’s resignation letter was read on the floor of the house by the speaker, Umaru Fintiri and approved by the lawmakers.

In the absence of the governor and the resignation of the deputy, the Speaker of the House, Amadu Umari, was sworn in as acting governor of the state.
