ABUJA, Nigeria — The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Prof. Abubakar Abdulrasheed, announced his resignation from the Commission on Monday, June 26, 2023.
The announcement was made at the Commission’s headquarters during the approval and issuance of a provisional license to Kogi State University, Kabba, Kogi State.
Prof. Abdulrasheed described the newly approved Kogi State University as his “last baby” in the Commission, reflecting on the numerous universities that received approvals during his tenure.
Prof. Abdulrasheed served as the Executive Secretary of the NUC for seven years, during which time he played a significant role in the development and regulation of universities in Nigeria.
In his announcement, Prof. Abdulrasheed did not specify the reasons for his resignation.
His tenure at the NUC was marked by several accomplishments and reforms in the Nigerian university system.
The National Universities Commission, under the leadership of Prof. Abdulrasheed, had been responsible for granting approvals to new universities and ensuring quality assurance in Nigerian universities.
As Prof. Abdulrasheed departs from his role, stakeholders in the education sector will be looking forward to the appointment of a successor who will continue to build on the achievements and reforms initiated during his administration.
