NAN – The Borno Government said on Thursday, April 23, 2015 that it had established about 10 temporary primary schools at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Maiduguri.
Alhaji Grema Terab, the Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said this while speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri.
Terab said the objective of the gesture was to keep the children in the camps busy and abreast with their studies, pending their return home.
He said that volunteer teachers were being used to teach the students pending when concrete arrangements would be made to source for teachers from displaced communities to handle the classes.
“Since the teachers from the troubled communities are still drawing monthly salaries without teaching, arrangements are being made to deploy them to teach in the schools in the camps.” Terab said.
He said that the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) had already donated books and other instructional materials to the schools.
