MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – The Borno State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to retain Vice-President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 elections.

This appeal comes amid growing speculation that President Tinubu may consider dropping Shettima ahead of the upcoming polls.

The call was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the government house in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the party’s chairman, Bello Ayuba, and secretary, Mustapha Loskuri, expressed their support for Shettima’s performance as Vice-President and commended his unwavering commitment to President Tinubu’s mandate.

“The meeting called on Vice President Shettima to remain loyal to his boss, Mr. President, and continue to serve diligently to promote the laudable policies of Mr. President,” the communique stated.

It further urged President Tinubu to keep Shettima as his vice-presidential candidate for the second term, highlighting the party’s “total and unalloyed loyalty” to the federal government under Tinubu’s leadership.

The APC stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, praying for divine guidance and protection for both the President and Vice-President.

In addition to their endorsement of Shettima, the stakeholders expressed confidence in Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration in Borno.

The meeting praised Zulum’s efforts in tackling the challenges of insurgency, terrorism, and criminality in the state.

Zulum, however, recently voiced concerns over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings, describing the recent dislodgment of military formations in certain local government areas as a “significant setback” in the fight against insurgency.

He called for more efforts, especially in deploying technological warfare, to counter these threats.

The meeting, which gathered prominent political figures, including APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori, Senator Mohammed Monguno, and other key stakeholders from Borno, also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the success of the Tinubu administration and the security of Borno State.
