Police and Army bomb disposal experts visited the scene following the security alert that a suspicious object had been left in the area on Monday October 13, 2014.
According to local report, about 30 homes have been evacuated as the alert that is believed to have been sparked after the device was found outside a residential building.
Chief Inspector of the community, Tony Callaghan has however commended the swift response of the residents at the time of discovery.
“We appreciate the community’s patience while we carry out this operation, but the responsibility for this disruption and danger lies squarely with those who planted the device.
“We will endeavour to clear the area and make it safe as soon as possible.”
According to the SDLP councillor, Brian Tierney, “There are a lot of young families here, a lot of people were coming home from work this evening when this alert first went off and weren’t allowed back to their homes.

Police has however assured residents that they would returned to their respective homes as soon as the device is identified and disabled if it eventually turn out to be an explosive.
