A lawmaker in Nigeria’s house of Representative has revealed that 19 students and staff of the University of Maiduguri were killed in separate attacks launched by Islamist terrorist sect, Boko Haram in this year.

The university has been attacked at least six times by the Boko Haram sect.

The first attack was in January, 2017 with the latest in July, 2017

In his motion, Mohammed Monguno is asking the federal government to deploy a team of security officials from all security agencies including the Department of State services to protect the school.

He is also opposing a proposed closure of the university.

The motion was supported by members of the House.

The lawmakers are asking security agencies, particularly the military, the police and the Department of State Services, to “submit a comprehensive plan of action to maintain constant security of the university.”

About 100,000 people have been killed since the start of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009.

Most of the attacks happened in three north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

Buhari Defeats Boko Haram?

Late December 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari declared victory over the Islamist terrorist group after Nigerian troops announced that they have recaptured Camp Zero in Sambisa forest, the base of the deadliest terrorist group in the world.

The Nigerian Army later presented the president with the flag belonging to the terrorist group in a “mission accomplished” ceremony.

Since the declaration a week ahead of Christmas Day 2016, Boko Haram has launched a number of deadly attacks in the North Eastern region of the country where the terrorists have murdered at least 50,000 since they began their campaign to establish an Islamic caliphate in the country.
