Armed men, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram insurgent group have reportedly attacked a minibus conveying about 16 people from Waza to Mora in Cameroon on the night of Thursday, January 1, 2015, killing 11.
According to a Cameroonian online tabloid, Camer, the passengers were traveling so as to attend the celebrations of Eid el Maulud (Birth of Prophet Muhammed).
Reports say the insurgents slit the throats of 11 occupants of the bus and injured several women about forty kilometers from Mora, which is a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Mora is said to have suffered near-daily attacks from Boko Haram within the last three months with many houses burnt and many residents taken hostage.
The recent bus attack is rumoured to be in retaliation for the killing of some Boko Haram members by the Cameroonian army in recent weeks.
Cameroonian investigative journalist, Bisong Etahoben, speaking via popular social media platform, Twitter said that some passengers were still missing.
“At the final casualty count of attack, 11 (persons) were killed, with their throats slashed while six were hospitalised in Mora with serious injuries,” he said.
A bus full of passengers traveling from Kousseri to Mora was this evening ambushed by BH. Some passengers dead & others missing.
