A man identified as the father of one of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls has been killed by Boko Haram in a wave of attacks in three villages near Chibok.
The late Lalai Nkeki is said to be the father of the girl named Kauna in the Chibok kidnapping list.
Mr. Hosea Tsambido, chairman of the Chibok community in Abuja, has said that Nkeki was killed at Kubumbalah, a village near Chibok, on Monday,
“Kauna’s father, Mr Lalai Nkeki, was killed in an attack two days at Kubumbalah, near Chibok two days by Boko Haram,” Tsambido said in a telephone interview with TheCable. “Kauna is one of the Chibok girls.”
The terrorists reportedly attacked three villages in Borno, overrunning the villages, hoisting their flag and leaving an uncertain number of people dead.
“The villages – Kubirivour, Boftari and Kuburmbalah – are near Chibok town, from where the militants captured more than 200 schoolgirls in 2014,” the BBC reported.
The Nigerian Army refuted the reports saying that nobody was killed in the attacks and that the terrorists did not hoist their flag because they were “repelled” by troops.
“On Monday, at about 5.00pm suspected elements of Boko Haram terrorists, scavenging for food, attacked Kwang village and Vigilantes from Dagu (which is about 4 kilometres from Kwang), responded and repelled the terrorists attack,” Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement reacting to the report.
“During the firefight that ensued, one of the vigilantes sustained gunshot wound on his hand and was evacuated to General Hospital Uba while the terrorists fled with gunshot wounds.
“Unfortunately, the terrorists had set some houses on fire and fled. The troops put out the fire and are currently on the hunt for the terrorists.
“It is imperative to state that contrary to rumours flying around some media reports, no life was lost.
“Additionally, there is no presence of the terrorists in any of the villages’ talk less of hoisting flags as alleged. “The troops have continued to maintain high level of vigilance,” the statement, which was e-mailed to The Trent, said.
