The secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) , Eiyadd Amin Madan which Nigeria is a member has tagged Boko Haram as a criminal group whose members were misusing Islamic religious doctrines to perpetrate violence.
He condemned their action stating that is not part of the tenets of Islam.
He made the comment while speaking with correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the State House in Abuja.
“We are here to express our solidarity with Nigeria in facing up to this terrorist organization and to condemn the terrorist acts they have been committing and to show our condolences to the Nigerian people.
“The OIC has issued statements that were very clear that these people are outlaws.
“What they do is criminal acts that have nothing to do, absolutely nothing to do with Islam, Islamic teaching, the religion of Islam, the history of Islam, the culture and civilization of Islam and we should identify them for what they are as a terrorist group,“ he said.
The Secretary General stated the readiness of the organization to help improve the welfare of residents of communities affected by the activities of the insurgents.
He said OIC is not a religious but political organization ready to support the country in convening inter-faith dialogue, based on the request of Nigeria.
