The Nigerian Army on Sunday, August 16, 2015 named Major General Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar as the new Commander for Operation Lafiya Dole, the rechristened operation against insurgent group, Boko Haram.
His appointment was announced via a statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman.
Usman further disclosed that this would mark the first time in the country’s history that Army would deploy Corps Headquarters in the field, adding that “The appointment is with immediate effect.”
Before his appointment, Abubakar was the Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, a unified command coordinating 3 and 7 Divisions of the Nigerian Army as well as other elements of the Operation Lafiya Dole.
