After allegedly taking up the seat of the traditional ruler forcefully, Igwe Barnabas Agbaji of Unadu community In Nsukka, Enugu State who is also a retired police officer had allegedly taken the most bizarre action ever against two of his subjects who he accused of practicing witchcraft.
He arrested two of his subjects identified as Remigus Nwa Ikeagwu and Silas Amehaa and accused them of witchcraft after which he convicted them and hung a tire around their necks, tied fresh palm fronds all over their bodies and paraded them around the community as common criminals.
A source from the community disclosed that Ikeagwu had been autocratic since he assumed office as the Igwe of the community which had made the subjects to grapple in fear each time they heard about him.
It was learnt that he was an influential person in the Enugu state Government which usually made him to boast that nothing could happen to him.
According to reports on Friday, January 9, 2015 tension is already running high in the community and from my investigation, his people are “spoiling for war threatening fire and brimstone” if appropriate action is not taken against the ex-policeman now traditional ruler and some of his subjects are calling for his dethronement because his recent bizarre action on his subjects is the height of what they can tolerate
