DALLAS, USA – Renowned megachurch leader and New York Times bestselling author, Bishop T.D. Jakes has described his recovery from a recent health scare as nothing short of miraculous.
The 67-year-old founder of The Potter’s House in Dallas shared his emotional testimony during a virtual appearance on Sunday, December 1, 2024 one week after a life-threatening incident occurred while he was delivering a sermon.
A Sudden Health Crisis
On 24 November, Jakes startled his congregation when he suddenly lowered his microphone, appeared to convulse, and was quickly assisted off stage.
The live broadcast from The Potter’s House was cut, leaving viewers and members of the church concerned about his wellbeing.
Jakes later revealed he was rushed to the ICU and underwent emergency surgery for what he called a “life-threatening calamity.”
He described the experience as deeply humbling, stating, “Many of you don’t realise that you’re looking at a miracle.”
Addressing His Congregation
In his first address since the incident, Jakes reflected on the fragility of life and the grace that spared him.
“Every moment of your life, recognise that somebody’s headed to the morgue while you’re headed to the light,” he said during the virtual service.
“Not because you’re any better, not because they’re any worse, but by the amazing grace of God.”
The bishop recounted his feelings during the crisis, describing a profound sense of peace.
“It was quiet and it was peaceful, and I was cradled,” he shared, adding that his faith carried him through the ordeal.

On the Road to Recovery
Although Jakes expressed gratitude for being “pain-free” and “feeling good,” he acknowledged the importance of following his medical team’s advice.
He plans to take several weeks to rest and recover fully, stating, “The truth of the matter is sometimes things happen that are beyond our control.”
In a heartfelt moment, Jakes expressed thanks to his family, congregation, and the broader community for their support.
“I need you to help me to praise God that we’re not planning a funeral,” he declared, his voice filled with emotion.
A Legacy of Faith
Jakes also reflected on the purpose of his life and ministry, saying he remains steadfast in his mission despite the unexpected health challenge.
“Sometimes you just gotta be grateful,” he said in a recent social media post.
He dismissed initial fears of a stroke, sharing relief that the incident wasn’t as severe as it could have been.
Jakes’ journey of faith has been marked by resilience and dedication since founding The Potter’s House in 1996.
The non-denominational, multicultural church now boasts a 30,000-strong membership and serves as a hub for spiritual growth and community outreach in southern Dallas.
A Call for Gratitude
Throughout his recovery, Jakes has used his platform to encourage others to cherish life and embrace gratitude.
His message resonates with millions who draw inspiration from his ministry.
As he continues his healing journey, his words serve as a testament to faith, hope, and the enduring power of grace.
The Potter’s House and the global community eagerly await Bishop Jakes’ full return, praying for his continued strength and health.
