A lot has already been said about homosexuality and even more debates about it arise day-in, day-out. Generally, Christians do not support same sex romantic relationships. Some have genuine reasons, while others are just indifferent. But the big question is: What exactly does the bible say about homosexuality?
The most referred to story in the bible concerning homosexuality is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. In Genesis 19: 4-11, the Scripture says:
“But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. And they said, Stand back. And they said again, this one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.’’
This story is very clear.
The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, homosexuality, is not condoned by God. In fact it is this sin that made God destroy the cities completely.
In the New Testament, Paul too condemns homosexuality. Romans 1:26-27 reads:
“For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.”
Generally, the bible condemns sodomy throughout. There’s no single incidence where it is appreciated.
