It’s become something that every top musical artist must do if they’re to stay in the higher reaches of the charts – brag about how much money they’re making.
Maybe it’s just part of the fleeting nature of fame that our stars have to declare their wealth in the most gaudy way possible, but as these big money hits about planes, cars, casinos and roulette prove, it’s pretty entertaining!
Wale featuring Rick Ross, Meek Mill and T Pain – Bag of Money
When he’s not losing massive amounts of weight, Rick Ross has made a great job of saying just how much fun it is to have tonnes of cash. Bag of Money is one of the rap star’s best songs and it’s it’s this partnership with the likes of T Pain and Wale that gave the star the biggest shot at wealth-boasting yet. Although the basic premise of money-loving-women may be a little overdone, it’s a theme that nevertheless managed to help the track smash the Billboard Hot 100.
Akon featuring Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy – I’m So Paid
OK so Akon may have gone a little bit quiet over recent years, but that’s not surprising seeing as he’s given the world massive money-bragging hits like I’m So Paid. With lyrics referencing the luxurious touchstones of Porsches and Italian leather, it once again showed us how Akon has come a long way from his St Louis origins – but surely owning a diamond mine is a step too far?
Lil Scrappy featuring Ludacris – Addicted to Money
Another hip-hop star who’s gone a little quiet recently is Lil Scrappy. Since bursting out of the vibrant Atlanta scene, he looked like he was going to set the world alight, especially with this money-flaunting hit, Addicted to Money, seeing him teaming up with fellow Atlanta-native Ludacris. But whilst Lil Scrappy has faded from sight, Ludacris shows no signs of slowing down. Especially as recently spent his $30,000 Las Vegas casino win on a playground for his kids, and so it would interesting to see how he’d handle the speed of the roulette wheel on the Lucky Nugget Casino site and how he’d spend the prize winnings!
Wiz Khalifa – This Plane
Possibly one of the most hated men in music certainly doesn’t seem to care as long as he’s got his shrimp and filet mignon as boasted about in his 2009 hit, This Plane. The star recently completed some massive dates with rap icon Snoop Dogg, most notably hitting up the famous Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, and now that his divorce to Amber Rose has been settled, it’ll be interesting to see how he’ll adapt to life with $644,000 still owed to his ex-wife!
