Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is leading in the December 5 governorship elections in the state of Bayelsa according to results announced on national television by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the evening of Sunday, December 6, 2015.
His closest rival, former Governor Timipre Sylva is trailing behind Dickson’s 81,929 votes with 55,714 votes.
The elections, which has been married by violence and reports of hostage taking by militants and allegations of rigging spilled over into December 6 after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cancelled elections in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and rescheduled it for Sunday, December 6, 2015.
Dickson won in four of the local government areas announced namely, Sagbama, Yenagoa, Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, while Sylva won his Brass where he comes from.
The results of three local governments – Ogbia, Nembe and Southern Ijaw – are still being expected.
INEC has postponed the announcement of the remaining results till 10am on Monday.
