Residents of the Bayelsa state capital, Yenogoa have decried what they called exorbitant bills the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) brings to them, according to Vangurad.
The customers complained that the PHEDC keeps on increasing the monthly bills without any visible change in the quality of power supply.
According to them, most houses in most parts of the state do not make use of electricity meters to ascertain the amount of electricity consumed, but the PHEDC charges them through uneven service charge estimation, which the residents condemn as unbearably outrageous.
Reports say the situation is causing a lot of grumbling among resident s and there are genuine fears that it might escalate into full blown protests.
The issue was discussed and unanimously condemned recently at the Bayelsa state house of assembly with the speaker of the house Konbowei Benson stating: “We are tired of this billing system. We are billed N800,000 every month. There is no meter to show how much we incur every month and if we don’t pay, they come to disconnect us.”
