JUST IN: Bandits Kidnap Zamfara’s Speaker’s Father

Must read

Bandits have attacked the village of the Zamfara State House of Assembly Speaker Nasiru Magarya, abducting his father.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen invaded the Magarya community in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, August 5, 2021, and also kidnapped the lawmaker’s stepmother, and four other persons in the community.

The bandits were said to be on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically to scare people away to allow them to carry out their acts.

The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command Superintendent Shehu Mohammed also confirmed the incident, and noted that the command has deployed additional troops to the affected area to ensure the safe return of the victims.

The abductors are yet to contact the families of the kidnapped persons while the lawmaker has not commented on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Wednesday’s attack is the latest assault on the northwestern state where banditry and kidnapping have become rampant.

Governor Bello Matawalle has attributed the increased spate of crime in the state to unresolved conflicts between herders and farmers.

The Zamfara leader also blamed the rising rate of kidnapping and banditry on the failure of some states in the region to dialogue with bandits.
