The birth of a baby girl with two heads has attracted the attention of a massive crowd since she was born in the late hours of Thursday, November 12, 2015.
Medical officials said the baby is now receiving treatment for breathing difficulties at the intensive care unit of the largest hospital in Bangladesh.
Thousands of people have reportedly flocked to the hospital in Brahmanbaria, east of Dhaka, where she was delivered by Caesarean section, to catch a glimpse of the newborn, AFP reports.
The ‘miracle’ baby’s father, Jamal Mia, a farm labourer, said he was ‘awestruck’ when he first saw his baby, and lamented that his poor financial status might make it difficult for him to cater for the extra expenses the child would need.
He said: “When I saw my baby, I was awestruck. She has two fully developed heads. She is eating with two mouths and breathing with two noses.
“Still, I thank Allah that she and the mother are now okay.
“I feel sad for her. She has been born to a poor man. I don’t have money to even properly treat her mother.”
The owner of the Standard Hospital of Total Healthcare where the baby was born, Abu Kawsar, said initial tests showed she only has one set of vital organs.
He said: “Except for having two heads, the newborn has the rest of her organs and limbs like a normal newborn.”
Kawsar observed that the baby’s birth attracted several visitors to the hospital after news spread of the “miracle newborn”.
He said: “The entire town poured into the clinic. There were thousands of people with some of them coming from the nearby villages.
“It’s good that the baby has been shifted to Dhaka. Otherwise, it would have been difficult for us to control the crowd.”
