The African Union (AU) has delegated a 50-man team led by former Mozambique President Joaquim Alberto-Chissano to observe the forthcoming Nigerian general elections.
Dr Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson, African Union Commission (AUC), gave the nod on Thursday, January 29, 2015 in Addis Ababa with the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Dr Aisha Abdullahi assisting Chissano in the mission.
The AU Commission had earlier dispatched 15 persons to monitor the election on a long-term basis under the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), with Zuma explaining that the 50-man team will leave as soon as the election was done while the 15-man team will remain in Nigeria until Wednesday March 11, 2015 to observe the critical stages of the electioneering process.
