A fresh power hustle has is boiling from the All Progressives Congress’ camp as former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Former Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande race to become the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees.
A very reliable source on Friday, June 19, 2015 stated that the tussle was a bid by the power blocs in the APC to influence decisions and maintain control in the party by taking control of its various organs.
It has been learn that the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar camps believed that the BOT chairmanship would go far to assist them in controlling the party as it has been earlier reported that the two power blocs had engaged in a fierce battle to control the party.
The board members as stipulated in the Article 13.2 of the APC constitution is to elect the chairman of the BOT.
Investigations have proved that the both camps have commenced lobbying with members of the board , who would elect the chairman.
It had been also tipped that APC’s national leader, Bola Tinubu is backing Chief Akande against Atiku who played a role in the national Assembly leadership elections which got Tinubu unhappy.
It was gathered that Atiku Abubakar backed Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, during the course of their being elected, contrary to Senator Ahmed Lawan and Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila who was being supported by Tinubu and the National Working Committee of the party.
Eventually, both candidates supported by Tinubu and the NWC of APC failed to emerge victorious.
It has been disclosed that the victory of Senator Saraki and Rt. Hon. Dogara would ensure that the Atiku camp becomes more powerful in the party’s National Working Committee.
Consequently, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives are members of the NEC.
It is also believed that Tinubu has gained more control of the ruling party’s NWC as it is obvious that many of its members are in close ties with him.
