A man identified as Cletus Ternenge Labe, who was a renowned pharmacist and founder of La-Bet Pharmaceuticals was assassinated in his pharmaceutical complex on Wednesday, January 21, 2014 by unknown bandits in the Gboko area of Benue state.

One of the immediate relatives of the deceased said Cletus got an emergency call to come over to his health center around 7:35PM on the fateful day which he hurriedly did only to be attacked by unknown persons with a machete.
A source who claimed to have witnessed the tragic incident disclosed that about 6 assassins stormed the premises in a red Toyota car popularly called ‘dog nyash’
Four among the gang went inside the complex whereas two remained outside.
The men allegedly shot the deceased, cut his head open with a machete and also stole some money from his pharmacy before escaping.
An anonymous relative of the deceased said,“Cletus was a very brave health personnel whom notwithstanding the threats he got from the Doctors Association within Gboko, went ahead to administer health services to the poor masses at a subsidized and affordable rate.
He was dragged to court for refusing to stop affordable medical treatments. His life was taken when it became clear that he was going to win the case.”
Following his tragic death, some Gboko youths had staged a protest destroying property.
