A member of the Rivers State House of Representatives, Hon. Gogo Bright, was attacked by some hoodlums who made away with N1.3 Million and killed his driver, Hon Hope George, who was also a former councillor in Okrika Local Government Area, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital.
The Rivers state commissioner for Police, Mr. Dan Bature, disclosed this occurrence on Sunday, January 11, 2015 during a press briefing with some journalists after he visited Bright who is the member representing Okrika/Ogu/Bolo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
He explained that hoodlums followed Bright who was with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Okrika Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Datorudimabo Adams, and his driver from a bank in the capital city where he had gone to withdraw the money.
The unknown assailants eventually stopped the lawmaker and disappeared with the money.
The police boss disclosed that the command has swung into full investigation to bring the culprits to book while maintaining that the attack had nothing to do with politics.
Although the Rivers state PDP had on Saturday insisted that the attack on its members, including the killing of Friday Mbadee Onura at Eleme were carried out by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), acting on the instructions of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, Leadership reports.
