ABUJA, Nigeria — A devastating armed robbery occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Volcano Hotel in the Gwarinpa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The gang of robbers stormed the nightclub within the hotel, killing a disc jockey and robbing guests of their valuables.
The disc jockey, identified as Bashiru Dauda, was fatally shot during the raid.
Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers took advantage of the late-night revelry to carry out their attack, leaving guests and staff in a state of terror and panic.
Sani (no surname), a resident of the area, described the incident as part of a disturbing trend of armed robberies in Gwarinpa.
“This is one of the many armed robbery incidents that have become rampant in Gwarinpa,” he said, expressing concern over the rising insecurity in the neighbourhood.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that they received a distress call and promptly dispatched operatives to the scene.
Unfortunately, Bashiru Dauda was found shot and, despite being rushed to Jabi Hospital, was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police have launched an investigation to apprehend the culprits responsible for the attack.
They have also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately.
The tragic event at Volcano Hotel has heightened concerns about security in Abuja, particularly in areas like Gwarinpa where such incidents appear to be on the rise.
The FCT Police Command’s response and ongoing investigation will be crucial in restoring a sense of safety and trust among the residents and patrons of the area.
