Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun was absent at the interdenominational service held for the late Ooni Of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade on Friday, August 14, 2015.
Aregbesola was represented by the secretary to the state government, Moshood Adeoti. He said the governor was unavoidably absent because he was invited to Lagos for ”a very urgent meeting”.
The governor eulogised the late monarch for his contributions toward the promotion of Yoruba culture.
The governor had revealed the content of the last text message he received from the late king. According to him, the sms was sent just before the monarch traveled to the United Kingdom for medical treatment. It wished the governor continuous guidance of God.
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the August 9, 2014 governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who is a prominent son of lle Ife, attended the ceremony.
