Archbishop Emeritus, Desmond Tutu has spent two days in a hospital facility in South Africa where he was sent following a persistent infection.
The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation made this disclosure in a statement on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in capital, Johannesburg.
Although his daughter, Rev. Canon Mpho Tutu, declined to specifically state the nature of the infection for which the Nobel Peace Prize laureate was hospitalised, it was gathered that the 83-year-old previously suffered prostrate cancer.
According to reports, she expressed gratitude to all who had sent “love and prayers over the past 24 hours, telephonically, electronically and through social and mass media channels.”
His representatives are hopeful that he would be released in a day or two days time.
Tutu is renowned for his Nobel Peace Prize which was awarded him in 1984 as a result of his resistance to South Africa’s apartheid regime during the time.
As the wind of racial discrimination calmed in the country, legendary Nelson Mandela appointed Tutu to head the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
