APP Celebrates Landslide Victory in Rivers State Local Government Elections

Must read

PORT HARCOURT, Rivers State — The Action Peoples Party, APP, has expressed its gratitude to the people of Rivers State and its supporters for their overwhelming backing in the just-concluded local government chairmanship elections, where the party secured 22 out of 23 chairmanship seats in a decisive win.

The announcement was made on Saturday, October 5, 2024, by the Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, in Port Harcourt.

Following the news, celebratory scenes erupted across the state as supporters of both APP and the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, took to the streets in jubilation.

Many residents expressed optimism that the APP victory would mark the end of what they described as political oppression by certain actors attempting to destabilise the state.

The PDP had withdrawn from the October 5 polls due to a deepening rift between the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Nyesom Wike, the current FCT Minister and former Rivers State governor.

Reacting to the victory, APP’s national chairman, Uchenna Nnadi, thanked the people of Rivers State for placing their trust in the party despite attempts by some political figures to derail the election through court injunctions.

“I’m happy and elated about the landslide victory,” Nnadi said.

“I thank God, and I thank Rivers people for believing in the Action People’s Party, despite attempts by some selfish individuals who are obsessed with holding on to power that doesn’t belong to them.

“Their attempts to secure baseless court injunctions failed woefully; Rivers people have spoken.”

Nnadi also assured that the newly elected APP chairmen would work towards improving the well-being of the people and delivering the change that the local government areas have been yearning for.

“Let’s get to work and give the Rivers Local Government the positive change they are yearning for,” Nnadi concluded.

The landslide victory of APP marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Rivers State.
