Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC)in Borno State on Monday, February 16, 2015. attacked and razed the Borno State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign office in the state, they also destroyed posters and banners of the PDP.
The Scoop reports that the said vandalism perpetrated by the APC supporters was carried out at the same time the APC presidential rally was holding at the Ramat Square, Maiduguri, chanting pro-Buhari slogans.
The violent actions of the APC supporters was not unconnected to the briefness of the APC rally, which saw the APC presidential candidate whisked away by security aides about twenty minutes after his arrival.
According to the report, a major PDP campaign office, popularly known as UTC, located about 500 meters from Ramat Square, was burnt down by the irate mob.
A police officer stationed close to UTC spoke to journalists saying: “We tried everything in our powers as permitted of us during riots to stop them, but the young men came in their hundreds and our men had to retreat because we do not intend to use excess force to stop them. It was really very sad.”
