Residents of the Majigiri village of Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina state are currently recounting their losses after some political thugs alleged to be from the opposition All Progressive Congress stormed their village and set food storage bars ablaze.
The incident happened on Sunday, February 8, 2015 under the watchful eyes of the APC candidate for Daura senatorial seat, Engr Mustapha Bukar, Leadership reports.
Although Bukar refuted the claims that the supporters of his party could possibly attack his own community.
He said, “I wonder how we can attack a place where we went to seek for their votes.”
Sources maintained that the rebels stormed the village for campaigns densely armed with weapons like knives, machetes and so on.
Five persons sustained varied degree of injuries among whom was a 25-year-old Lawal Aliyu who sustained a deep cut on his cheek, and a village title holder.
Aliyu disclosed that he narrowly escaped death after the thugs effortlessly attempted to stab him in the stomach.
One of the victims whose barn was razed in the incident, Bashir Abdulkarim disclosed that the thugs stormed the village chanting political slogans and made some hostile statements about the residents.
He said, “Suddenly they started throwing stones at us when they realised our minds are made up about who to vote.”
