The APC governors and governors-elect held a crucial meeting at the Imo State governor’s lodge in Asokoro, Abuja on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 ahead of another crucial meeting between the governors and President-elect scheduled to hold Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
As early as 8:30 pm, the meeting had already gathered momentum with many personalities in attendance including the National chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Sokoto State governor-elect, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal and his Kano State counter-part, Umar Ganduje.
Also in attendance in the meeting were governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Chibuike Ameachi (Rivers) Tanko Almakura (Nassarawa), Kassim Shetima (Borno), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Nasir El-Rufia (Kaduna State governor-elect), Atiku Gbagudu ( Kebbi State Governor-elect) just as more were being expected, former governors of Kwara and Ekiti States, Senator Bukola Saraki and Kayode Fayemi arrived. Former member of the House of Representatives and now senator-elect from Adamawa State, Mrs Binta Garba was also sighted at the venue.
Vanguard gathered that the meeting which held behind closed doors was basically not unconnected to the yet-to-be harmonized positions of various geopolitical zones jostling for senate presidency and the Speakership of the House of Representatives, another reason would have been the jostle for the ministerial slots for which the governors had started submitting names from their respective states.
There are expectations that a communique would be issued at the end of the meeting.
