President Muhammadu Buhari, who only returned to the country after a 2-day trip to Germany for the G7 summit has renegaded on an earlier promise he made to steer clear of the affairs of the National Assembly by holding a meeting aimed at uniting the warring faction of lawmakers over who will emerge as leaders of the 8th Assembly.
According to sources, President Buhari will hold a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers at 9am n Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja in order to calm the storm after hopefuls for the position of Speaker and Senate President – Yakubu Dogara and Bukola Saraki respectively – rejected the party’s choice of Femi Gbajabiamila and Ahmed Lawan.
It is unsure if the lawmakers will agree to the party’s choices as they (Dogara and Saraki) have been endorsed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sending invites for the emergency meeting with President Buhari was the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, who stated that “all concerned must endeavour to attend” the meeting scheduled to hold shortly before the legislators head for the Assembly Complex for the election of officers proper.
