AKURE, Nigeria — The All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ondo state, Nigeria, has assured citizens that the health condition of state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, is not severe enough to prevent him from resuming his official duties.
Governor Akeredolu, currently on medical leave and abroad for treatment, had previously transmitted power to his deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa, to serve as the Acting governor.
In a widely publicised voice note obtained by The Trent, early 2023, Akeredolu’s wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, revealed that her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
He is scheduled to resume work on July 6, 2023.
The state chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin, issued a statement on Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Akure, the state capital, in an attempt to dispel rumours about the severity of the governor’s health condition.
The statement was signed by the party’s Director of Media & Publicity, Steve Otaloro.
“The governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has been battling health issues lately. However, his health issue is not so serious that it will prevent him from resuming his official position as Governor of Ondo State,” Adetimehin assured.
The party chair expressed disappointment with those spreading false news about the governor’s alleged demise, terming such actions as unfair and deserving of condemnation.
Moreover, Adetimehin denounced accusations from opposition groups blaming the governor’s family for not adequately addressing his health situation.
He described these allegations as “disrespectful, flippant, and callous”.
Adetimehin called for the people’s support and prayers for the governor and his family, urging them to “stand by the family in these difficult times”.
He also highlighted Governor Akeredolu’s love for the downtrodden and declared that he “deserves all the support and prayers for a full recovery from his illness”.
This statement aims to address concerns surrounding the governor’s health while urging citizens to discard unfounded rumors and offer their support during this challenging period.
