The All Progressives Congress has cancelled the result of the governorship primary election held in Bayelsa state on Tuesday.
Timipre Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa, was declared as the candidate by a member of the election committee but it was widely condemned as the election was marred by violence and intimidation by thugs loyal to Sylva.
Even before it was cancelled, the governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, who was head of the election committee condemned Sylva, describing his emergence as a joke.
APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, stated on Wednesday, that the primary had now been rescheduled due to security reasons and violence.
“The primary has been rescheduled; it had to be called off due to security challenges,” said Odigie-Oyegun.
He added that the leadership of the party would meet to select a new date for the election.
