The immediate past Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has been awarded the Texas Southern University Distinguished Alumnus Award. The awards comes in recognition of Senator Obanikoro’s outstanding achievements in public service an as a worthy ambassador of the institution.
In a letter exclusively obtained by The Trent, the Texas Southern University described Obanikoro as “A world leader who is making a significant difference in your nation Nigeria and we would like to honour you as a Distinguished Texas Southern Alumnus at the 2014 President’s Gala. You not only represent your university on the world stage, but you provide a great example to our students, and young alumni of the benefits of a Texas Southern education mixed with hard work and determination.”
Reacting to the award by his alma mater, Senator Obanikoro wrote on his official Facebook page: “My alma mater, the Texas Southern University, United States of America is awarding me the Distinguished Texas Southern Alumnus Award at the 2014 President’s Gala. Coming many years after I graduated from the institution, I am extremely humbled and honored by this award. I look forward to receiving this great honour.”
The event has been scheduled to hold on Friday 24 October, 2014 at the Westin Galleria Hotel, 5060 West Alabama – Houston, Texas 77056.
