BENUE, Nigeria – Tragedy struck in Benue State as angry youths from Konshisha local government area buried two persons alive, accusing them of being responsible for a recent thunder strike.
The incident affected one Henry Ihwakaa, his wife, and their two-week-old child.
Ihwakaa, believed to be the father of Henry, was accused by the youths of bewitching people with thunderstorms in the area whenever it rained.
On the day of the incident, the youths mobilised and attacked Ihwakaa and his alleged collaborator, burying them in a shallow grave.
Community elder and eyewitness, Baba Agan, reported that the matter was brought to the attention of the police in Konshisha local government. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) then mobilised officers to the scene of the crime.
By the time the police arrived, both victims had already died in their grave. Their bodies were exhumed for further investigation.
Benue Police spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident and stated that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the act, with investigations ongoing.
The public relations officer cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands and resorting to vigilante justice.
