Youth of Anambra South Senatorial District under the umbrella body of Dynamic Youth Organization of Nigeria, DYON, on Friday, March 24, 2017 called for the immediate recall of the senator representing their district, Andy Uba, alleging breach of trust, mandate and electoral laws.
The group, at a stakeholders meeting that had community leaders in attendance, condemned what they described as an abysmal performance of the lawmaker in the red carpet chamber saying that a committee would be set up to look into the issue with hope of attaining a far reaching result.
The proposed committee which will be a 15-man committee is expected to drive the process of reaching INEC and other relevant agencies to communicate them on the resolutions of the people even as it has been given a term of reference to mobilise the two-third of the registered voters in the zone to sign for the recall of Sen. Uba as enshrined by the constitution.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Alex Osaka; State Secretary, Comrade Egwuatu Samuel and National Organizing Secretary, Comrade Obi Egbeji and made available to Journalists in Awka, DYON said Sen. Uba’s shortfall was made worse with his recent dumping of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) without consultations with his constituency.
According to them, the group has held series of painstaking consultations, sessions, interactions and deliberation with the people and the electorate in the zone including elder statesmen, women leaders, trade unions, student unions, religious leaders, traditional leaders and the artisans on the stewardship of Sen. Uba, and resolved that the lawmaker has betrayed the confidence reposed in him.
One of the reasons given for the proposed recall is: “Recent defection of Senator Andy Uba from PDP to APC without any form of consultations or notification to the members of the senatorial zone he represents at the 8th National Assembly.”
Continuing, the aggrieved youths said: “Senator Andy Uba’s representation at the National Assembly for the past seven years has never been in the interest of the electorates, rather an individual gain for himself, his family members and friends.
“Senator Andy Uba’s conducts at the National Assembly have not attracted any meaningful developmental project.
Nanka and Oko communities have been wiped out by erosion menace in that axis where Senator Andy Uba comes from but he had never shown interest on how to address the issue.
“Senator Andy Uba’s eight years in presidency as special assistant (domestic) to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was nothing to reckon with in his constituency. High rate of unemployment, insecurity and under-development was high during this period and he never cared to address same as a Senator representing the same constituency for seven years now.
“His recent defection from PDP to APC, we call it a total breach of trust, mandate, electoral laws and statutes, at this juncture, all the stakeholders present agreed to move a motion for the recalling of Senator Andy Ubah who is representing Anambra South Senatorial District.”
