AWKA, Nigeria – A probe by the Government of Anambra State into the contentious case surrounding the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, result of schoolgirl Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma has concluded, revealing that Mmesoma faked her examination results.
Mmesoma admitted on Friday, July 7, 2023, to falsifying the results during the course of the investigation.
“Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma admitted that she manipulated the fake results herself, using her phone,” the Committee of Inquiry’s report noted.
Following the conclusion of the panel’s investigation, the committee recommended that Mmesoma should issue a formal apology to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, as well as her school, the Anglican Girls Secondary, and the Anambra state government.
The panel of inquiry, led by Governor Charles Soludo and comprised of seven esteemed professors, was set up to investigate the validity of the contentious results after a prolonged stand-off between Mmesoma and JAMB over their authenticity.
“The results paraded by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma with an aggregate score of 362 are fake as buttressed by significant variations in the registration number, date of birth, centre name, and other infractions,” the panel’s report reads.
The Principal of the Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Mrs Edu Uche, along with the education secretary, Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion), expressed deep disappointment over Mmesoma’s conduct.
Furthermore, the panel suggests that Mmesoma should seek psychological counseling and therapy to address any potential issues that may have contributed to her actions.
“We hope that this unearthing of the truth as we have discovered will go a long way in correcting the sentiments, misconceptions, and deceptions that have been in the public domain,” the committee’s report reads.
This high-profile investigation shines a light on the need for transparency and authenticity in the academic examination process and highlights the severe implications for those who attempt to bypass these regulations.
