AWKA, Nigeria – The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, has constituted an eight-member committee to investigate the allegations of result forgery involving the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and a candidate who claimed to have scored the highest in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, Ejikeme Mmesomachukwu.
The committee is composed of six professors, one Reverend Sister, and another member from the state.
They are tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged forgery and providing recommendations on the way forward.
The members of the committee are Prof. Nkemdilim Nnonyelu (Chairman), Prof. Mercy Okonkwo, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, Prof. Maduabuchi Dukor, Prof. Jaja Nwanegbo, Rev. Sister Prof. Mary-Felicia Opara, Rev. Cannon Dr. Uxhenna Umeifekwem, and Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, Sir Paul Nwosu, it was disclosed that the state government has been closely monitoring the developments regarding the JAMB-Mmesoma Ejike issue.
The statement reads, “It’s important to note that Miss Mmesoma Ejike went to the office of the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh with her UTME result to protest that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, didn’t recognise her as the candidate with the highest score.”
“Professor Chuma-Udeh then contacted JAMB to confirm Mmesoma’s claims, but was informed that Mmesoma’s result was allegedly forged. Consequently, JAMB authorities invited the Directorate of State Services, DSS, to investigate the matter,” the statement further explained.
This development has drawn attention to the credibility of the examination process and the necessity for due diligence in verifying claims made by candidates.
The committee set up by Governor Soludo is expected to conduct a thorough investigation and provide insights into the alleged forgery.
Stakeholders in the education sector and the general public will closely watch their findings.
