The Anambra State Police command on Monday, April 1, 2019, has arrested five persons suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who allegedly attacked and burnt a police station in Ajali, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
Those arrested were Abuchi Nwogwu (21 years), Okwudili Nwanne (42), Maduabuchi Obia (22), Chukwuedozie Orah (30) and Ekechi Chukwuemeka (30), who the police said, all hailed from Ndikelionwu in the same local government area.
Mustapha Dandaura, the state commissioner of police, who paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Amawbia, said they were nabbed by the police Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, after what he called ‘an aggressive manhunt of perpetrators’.
According to the CP, the suspected IPOB members attacked the Ajalli Police Division and set ablaze the station, three police patrol vehicles and other exhibits.
He also said the suspects equally carted away three AK 47 rifles from the division’s armoury and injured the Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, who was on a visiting round at the time.
Dandaura said that upon interrogation, the suspects took police operatives to their hideout where one of the AK 47 rifle with breech number KO 358792 was recovered, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations.
