Children from the ages of 10 and below in the United States have been banned from heading soccer balls after a player safety campaign was released by US soccer.
This is in a bid to prevent concussion especially after incidents at last year’s world cup involving Uruguay’s Alvaro Pereira and Germany’s Christoph Kramer.
US Soccer has previously faced a lawsuit by parents and players after being accused of being negligent in the numerous cases of concussion.
Aside banning children 10 and under from heading balls, the new changes in rule also limits heading practice for children between 11 and 13.
The new recommendations were recommended to the US Soccer by the organisation’s medical committee.
