Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Monday, June 1, 2015 accused the immediate past government of Rotimi Amaechi and its officials of stripping the government house bare.
Governor Wike went as far as taking some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officials in the state on a tour of the allegedly looted government house and at the same time released pictures to show Nigerians the situation of things.
In his defence, Amaechi, through the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), released a statement disclaiming all that Governor Wike’s claims saying that it was all a part of the governor’s plot to dupe the state. In the statement, the APC referred to the Wike led administration as a care-taker government and went as far as saying that the government is temporary.
The statement reads:
It has come to the attention of the Rivers State chapter of APC that care-taker governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike has commenced his several schemes to dupe Rivers people, one of which is to orchestrate an imaginary looting of Government House, Port Harcourt by the officials of erstwhile government of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, CON.
Initially, we thought it was some stunt by the renowned stuntman, Nyesom Wike and his motley gang. However, it does appear that the caretaker governor is set to pull a fast one on the people of Rivers State quite early in his numbered tenure.
We have watched his usual theatricals as he pretended to conduct his associates around the Government House facility just to prove that it was looted by the former government. The entire drama has been made to look like the storming of the Palace of Saddam Hussein in Iraq in 2003 and later that of Muammar Gaddafi of Libya in 2011, just to prove that Government House, Port Harcourt requires massive refurbishing and repairs. All of this is ostensibly aimed at paving way for massive refurbishment and repair contracts whose costs will be in several billions of Naira for himself and his cronies.
The APC would like to call on Rivers people to resist being hoodwinked by a master conman whose days as governor are numbered as he will soon be thrown out by the Tribunal sitting in Abuja.
He sought reprieve from evading service for a long term but the slow wheel of justice finally got him and he was served court process. Similarly, we expect the tribunal process to be typically not quick but surely will serve us justice by throwing away the usurper, Barr. Nyesom Wike and save Rivers State from the stranglehold of PDP buccaneers. It is only a matter of time!
