In a release by the Media Director of the Fatai Akinbade Campaign Organization (FACO), Kayode Oladeji, Akinbade who was the only contestant at the primaries of the party, was elected by delegates from all the 30 local government areas of the state and Ife Modakeke Area Council. The election which was supervised by National Officers of the party from Abuja, Alh Ganiyu Dauda and Com Callistus Okafor as well as INEC officials from Abuja, had about 1400 delegates.
Speaking at the occassion, the Presiding Officer, Com Okafor commended the process that led to the emergence of Akinbade,stressing that the peaceful conduct of the members was worthy of emulation by other parties.
He said the party would not rest on its oars until the state was won in the coming election, charging members of the party in the state not to be deterred by intrigues from any quarters.
In his acceptance speech, Akinbade while thanking members of the party for reposing confidence in him to lead them as a governorship candidate, he promised not to betray the trust. He assured that the state under his leadership when given the mandate would witness unprecedented turnaround.
” Let it be noted that as the governor of Osun State,I will not be a sectional leader. The entire Osun State is my consistuency nd as such developmental projects will spread across the 3 senatorial districts. I have come forward to renew the hope of our people. As a party – The Labour Party, It is avowed commitment to run a government that is participatory, transparent, accountable, effective and equitable.”
Meanwhile, he has called on other contenders and stakeholders in other parties to make sure their campaign were issues based,stressing”May I assure the people of Osun State that ours in Labour Party will be politics of issues and new ideas. I charge other governorship candidates to avoid the use of uncouth language, bitterness and eschew violence in their campaign as leadership is enhanced by a show of dignity.
