UYO, Nigeria — Patience Eno, the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State and wife of Governor Umo Eno, has died at the age of 57.
According to an official statement released early Friday by the Akwa Ibom State government, she passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, following a brief illness.
Ini Ememobong, the state’s Commissioner for Information, confirmed the news. In a public statement, the commissioner requested prayers and privacy for the grieving family during this difficult time.
“The family submits to the will of the Almighty and asks for the prayers and support of kind-hearted individuals during this difficult time,” Ememobong said. “Further details will be provided by the family as necessary.”
Pastor (Mrs) Patience Eno passed away in a hospital surrounded by family members.
She was widely known for her role as a pastor and as a supportive figure to her husband, Governor Umo Eno, whose tenure in Akwa Ibom State began in May 2023.
In his response, Governor Umo Eno expressed appreciation to those who have supported his family during this period of loss, assuring citizens that his commitment to serving the state remains steadfast despite the personal tragedy.
“His Excellency, the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, appreciates all who have stood by the first family in this period and assures all the citizens that despite this huge personal loss, his commitment to the service of the state is unwavering,” the statement added.
As of Friday morning, no further details about funeral arrangements have been released. The family has requested privacy as they mourn.
Patience Eno is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
