Leading Akwa Ibom politicians under the aegis of G-22 have put to rest their stand in the political development of the state by throwing their full weight behind behind Governor Udom Emmanuel.
G-22, made up of aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2014 gubernatorial primaries had left people speculating their possible defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC following their long drawn silence.
But in a move that has surprised the most ardent critic, the former aspirants storm the Hiltop Mansion seat of government to pledge their support and loyalty to the administration of Mr. Emmanuel.
Speaking through Barrister Ekpenyong Ntekim a former attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, the G-22 members, on Monday, September 5, 2016, said that since it was not possible for all of them to emerge as governor, it was only logical for them to support the governor to succeed.
He said the PDP remains a family and tradition in Akwa Ibom State and they had no intention of jumping ship to any other party and reiterated the desire of the group to work with the Governor as a family in the interest of the state.
Governor Emmanuel in his response, declared his commitment to success of the Akwa Ibom project, and commended the team for their support.
G22 members on the visit include Chief Assam Assam (SAN), Rt. Hon Okpolupm Etteh, Prince Chris Abasi Eyo, Pastor Ita Umo Udoh, Dr. Samuel Udonsak, Mr Effiong Usin, among others.
Assam, a former ambassador of Nigeria to Russia and Belarus had in an interview few months ago lamented that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, had disappointed Nigerians by failing to fulfill its campaign promises to the people, adding that he will never defect to a party that lacks ideology and principles.
